Update status of E-way bill is used to fetch the latest status of an E-way bill from the government portal. The possibilities are that an E-way bill may have been created on the ClearTax portal but later updated on the government portal. Update status of E-way bill fetches the latest status of an E-way bill from the government portal and helps the user in understanding the changes that have been made to the original E-way bill by the user or transporter. The status is fetched using the E-way bill number of an E-way bill in ‘Generated’ or ‘Part A’ status. For E-way bills in ‘Pending’ or ‘Failed’ status, latest details are fetched using IRN info. If IRN is not available then latest details can’t be fetched for such invoices. The steps to use this functionality are as follows:

Step 1: Login and go to View and Manage E-way bill

Login to ClearTax E-invoicing and E-way bill product via einv.cleartax.in or https://accounts.cleartax.in/. Click on ‘View and Manage EWB’ and select the GSTIN / branch

Step 2: Select the invoices whose status has to be updated

Select the invoices or EWBs whose latest status has to be fetched. EWBs in ‘Generated’, ‘Part A’ can be selected to get the latest status. Also IRNs in ‘Pending’ or ‘Failed’ status can be selected to obtain the latest status using the IRN. For IRNs in ‘Pending’ or ‘Failed’ for EWB if the status is unchanged then an error message is also displayed. If status is updated then the latest status is displayed.

Step 3: Click on ‘More Options’ and click on ‘Update EWB Status’

After selecting the E-way bills click on the ‘More Options’ button and then click on ‘Update EWB Status’ button to trigger the action of fetching latest status from NIC portal.

Step 4: Fetching latest status from government portal

Once ‘Update EWB status’ button is clicked the latest status for the selected E-way bills will be fetched from the government portal.

Once the latest status is successfully fetched the summary for the selected E-way bills is displayed on the screen. More details for the updated E-way bills can be viewed by clicking on the invoice id for the E-way bill or by checking the print of a particular E-way bill.
